Mississippi Gulf Coast Artist's – Jeri Hardy

Just another WordPress.com weblog

This is “The “Yellow House” using a new technique I just learned and is by far the better of the two I have done because I had no idea of what I was doing. I put it in the student’s show at Jeff Davis Jr. College, where I am happily a 63 year old student. When I started thinking about this painting, I had to buy tempera and could only find the three basic colors, yellow, blue and red so I had white gesso, so I figured that was enough to get started. Also had to buy chalk and the only chalk I could find was sidewalk chalk, which is pretty large. Sometimes, like with flowers, the more limited you are April 9, 2010

A gift for my grand daughter February 25, 2010

My daughter Sara noticed that my grand daughter, Abby liked buttons, so we decided to make her a button blanket.  My friend Tommie did ALL of the sewing.

This is the note we sent.  Dear Abby, This is a love gift that came from an idea your Aunt Sara had when she noticed that you loved buttons.  So I found this soft, soft, material and my frined Miss Tommie did ALL the Sewing, very tightly so that the buttons wouldn’t come off.

We want you to know the buttons are not edible – they do not taste good, so do not try to eat them.  We love you.

This is my newest totally acrylic painting and I was in love with it but now not so much. It doesn’t pop, glow. The burnt sienna in acrylic isn’t vibrant like it is in oil. I think I am going to start with taking out the bottom two figures and changing the background with some glazes and maybe some stamps. Also, by elongating the legs of the second boy on the left to intersect with the third man running. Need to distort the figures a bit more. Supposed to be in Burridge style, which at this it definitely is not. I’ m not even sure if I should be writing or painting. But, writing is supposed to help artists. My time is so limited. As usual I have spread myself too thin, but I think this painting has potential. I will welcome any suggestions. January 25, 2010
